Marion approves water tank donation to Carver

MARION — An unused water tank has been sitting in storage since 2019, purchased to sit on a brush breaker the town planned to buy.
The Select Board approved donating the tank to the Department of Conservation and Recreation District 2 fire warden at its Tuesday, Sept. 1 meeting.
The town recently received a grant to purchase a brush breaker, a rugged vehicle used to knock down obstacles and create a barrier for containing fires.
Because the new apparatus is fully equipped with its own water tank, the previously purchased tank was never used.
Town Administrator Geoffrey Gorman said the town has no need for the large tank, and he recommended giving it to the fire warden in nearby Carver.
“That’s who would help us out if we had a forest fire issue,” he said. “I think it's a great way to extend some unused resources to somebody who needs that more than we do right now.”
The Select Board agreed to the donation, and member Randy Parker said he thinks the donation is a great use for the tank.
“They've helped us out in the past too with apparatus, so if we can give them something back in that’s a great plan,” Parker said.
