Superintendent exceeds evaluation at Old Rochester School Committee
MATTAPOISETT — As the school year winds down, the Old Rochester Joint School Committee hosted a meeting where the Superintendent Michael Nelson was evaluated on how well he met his goals for the year.
A Joint School Committee meeting occurred on Tuesday, June 9 between the Old Rochester Regional School District and its members’ town representatives where the group publicly evaluated Nelson.
Chair of the Joint School Committee Nichole Daniel presented the goals of the Superintendent and how the Committee evaluated him.
She explained that everyone on the committee anonymously submitted comments and assessed how close Nelson met his previously set goals.
“This is by far probably the most overwhelmingly positive compilation of feedback that we've gotten,” Daniel said.
In the majority of his goals, evaluators said Nelson met or exceeded his goals.
Chair of the Old Rochester Regional School Committee Michelle Smith read off some of the anonymous, positive commentary of Nelson.
“Mr. Nelson is always on the front lines making sure our district is on par or ahead of new and challenging information,” Smith said. “When it comes to students, staff, and administration, it is clear that Ms. Nelson is on everyone's team looking out for what's best for them all.”
She also shared another anonymous comment that talked about the culture Nelson has created.
“He builds a culture where educators feel supported, families feel heard, and students feel safe and challenged to grow,” Smith said.
Nelson was grateful for the commentary but wanted to shine a light on his partners and the Old Rochester Regional community who support him and help him in accomplishing his goals.
“I have to have partners to be able to do this… they're the reason we're able to move in this direction,” Nelson said.
