Owl pellets and backyard butterfly presentations with Marion Natural History Museum
MARION — Join the Marion Natural History Museum for two educational presentations this March.
Owl Pellet dissection for adults. The Natural History Museum is hosting an adult Owl Pellet dissection on March 11 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Explore the world of owls and their eating habits. Unlike other birds, owls swallow their prey whole because they lack teeth for chewing.
The Owl Pellet Dissection program provides insight into these nocturnal predators. Learn how owls consume mice, voles, small birds and more.
Each pellet is dry heat sterilized. Gloves and dissection tools are provided to ensure a safe and hygienic experience.
A $10 donation to the museum pays for a pellet. Please preregister for this event at www.marionmuseum.org.
Backyard Butterflies. Join Joe Dwelly on March 18 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. to discuss butterflies that are likely to come to the suburban yard and how to attract them.
The program will talk about some of the important plants that might fit into a suburban yard and provide references for identifying plants that attract pollinators.
There will be photos of some of the most common butterflies and Dwelly will share information about how to identify butterflies.
Please preregister at www.marionmuseum.org.
