PBS documentary to be screened at Marion Music Hall
Event Date
MARION — The Sippican Historical Society and the Marion Institute will co-host a screening of “Saving Walden's World” at the Marion Music Hall.
A Q-and-A session with director Jim Merkel will follow the Friday, Nov. 13 screening, which will begin at 7 p.m.
The film follows Merkel, a former military engineer turned sustainability activist, as he raises his son, Walden, on an off-grid homestead in Maine. He travels to India, Cuba, and Slovenia to document women-led solutions that have successfully bypassed the growth trap of the West.
These societies prioritize literacy, healthcare, and reproductive freedom to build stability and equity without sacrificing quality of life.
"Marion is exactly the kind of community this film speaks to," says Director Jim Merkel. "A community invested in local food, local history, and the understanding that how we live here is connected to how people live everywhere. I am looking forward to the conversation."
“Saving Walden's World” has screened at 23 international film festivals and won 14 awards. It has been accepted for national distribution on PBS via NETA.
Tickets to the screening are free, and registration is recommended.
