ROCHESTER — The Rochester Police Department staff will soon gain one more patrol officer.

On Monday, Feb. 5, the Rochester Select Board voted unanimously to appoint Andrew Mattos as a full-time officer of the Rochester Police Department.

“He has been going through the process with us now for probably the last six months,” said Rochester Police Department Lt. Donald Kemmett. “This has included background, physical and psychological tests.”

“Once he graduates from the academy, he’ll be a certified officer,” said Kemmett. “We believe he is a strong candidate and he will make a good officer.”

Mattos has previously served in the United States Army and worked as a dispatcher for the New Bedford Police Department.
