“It was a great feeling to kind of get that revenge but more importantly, just go out playing our best. Case is a great team. They have a good coach [and] great players,” said Head Coach James Oliveira.
“We just felt like we had more to give yesterday that we didn’t leave on the court — and they brought it all [tonight],” he adds.
Team captains and Old Rochester seniors Katelyn Rodigues of Fairhaven, Maya Morrison of Rochester and Carly Mello of Mattapoisett were ecstatic about the team’s win.
“After all the work all season, this was a great game to finish the season off to go into playoffs,” said Rodrigues.
“Especially losing that first game against them yesterday, we came out strong and showed that we’re determined and we’re ready to go into the playoffs,” added Mello.
Morrison emphasized that the team’s energy remained “consistent throughout the whole match.”
“It definitely sets the tone for playoffs, and I’m so excited for playoffs to start,” she said.
Throughout the match, Old Rochester dominated the court with cohesive plays, team communication and powerful offense— finishing the first set with a score of 25-7 and the second with a score of 25-16.
Rodrigues commented that the team's serving was particularly strong during this match, giving the team the upper hand at the start of their plays.
Case started to push back against the Bulldogs in the third set and gained a slight lead.
However, with victory in sight, the Bulldogs pushed through and regained their lead — winning the match with a final score of 25-23 in the third set.
At the MIAA state tournament, Oliveira wants the team to focus on consistency.
“It’s really just consistency. We know the level that we can play at and we put that on display tonight, so it’s just [about] repeating it,” he said.
“I’m just really proud of them [and] looking forward to playoffs.”
