State grant funds career development at Old Rochester
MATTAPOISETT — Old Rochester Regional High School will soon receive a $75,000 state grant to support career development.
The school board approved the Innovation Career Pathways Implementation and Support Grant from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education at its Thursday, Jan. 15 meeting.
This follows a previous $50,000 disbursement the school received from the same state fund in spring 2025.
The funds will support the school’s Innovation Career Pathway program, which allows students to explore possible career paths while in high school.
Old Rochester offers two sectors for students to explore — advanced manufacturing and business and finance.
Students take classes in their desired concentration, receive mentorship from industry professionals and either produce a portfolio of work or complete an internship.
Of the total grant funds, the school has allotted $30,000 for students to take college courses, which Vice Principal Lauren Millette said students are “extremely interested in.”
“The opportunities that our kids will have access to as a result of this grant is something that is going to have such a powerful impact on them as they think about the future,” Millette said.
She said the school is thankful it received the grant and believes it will help students be prepared for their future upon graduation.
