Sippican School students walk out of the building for the last time this school year. There’s no more pencils, no more books for Marion, Mattapoisett and Rochester students, because school’s out for summer.
Schools around the Tri-Town celebrated the last day of class Monday, June 22 with ceremonies and early dismissals.
In Mattapoisett, Old Hammondtown Elementary School students sent off their sixth-grade classmates with a graduation.
Some of the kids moving on to seventh grade next year presented speeches and poems about their time at the school. Many of them reflected on beloved field trips and class lessons, such as crabbing at Cuttyhunk Island and learning about physics by crafting parachutes for Barbie dolls.
While student speaker Micah Kratochvil said he’s excited for junior high school, he’ll miss Old Hammondtown.
“Thank you for all the help and support from the teachers and staff that helped me these three years,” he said. “I really appreciate your help, and I'm sad to leave all these amazing people, but I'm ready for the next phase of my journey.”
Teachers and school staff also passed out awards for various achievements. These included accomplishments in music, sports, academics and leadership.
Sippican Elementary School staff wished students a happy summer at early dismissal with bubbles and eager parents awaiting pickup.
Elizabeth Taber Library planned its summer reading challenge kickoff to coincide with the last day of school celebration, and offered students of the school next door ice pops and activities.
Crunching on an ice pop, 11-year-old Sebastian Spinale, a Sippican School student, said he’s happy about school ending.
“I'm feeling epic today,” he said. “I feel like I've achieved every single goal, and honestly, this summer I'm going to ‘rizz’ up all the ladies.”
Cece Gilbert, 11, said she’s excited for summer and looks forward to tanning, going to Cape Cod, playing volley ball and seeing her friends during her time off.
