After two-plus decades in Fairhaven, a hair salon finds new home in Marion
MARION — After 26 years in Fairhaven, Gloria and Company, a hair salon and day spa, needed to move. The building the business occupied had been sold, and the eponymous Gloria Perperas and her 22 employees had to leave.
But things quickly fell into place for the salon, which moved to and reopened in Marion within a timeframe of about six weeks following the two-plus decades in nearby Fairhaven.
“The universe or the hair gods were really with us,” Perperas said.
For Perperas, becoming a hairdresser was something that just happened, a stroke of destiny perhaps from those aforementioned hair gods. Soon after attending college, getting married and having a child, Perperas was at a crossroads as to what she wanted to do.
She at one point walked by a beauty school near her home — New Bedford Beauty Academy on Acushnet Avenue — and thought it looked like those inside were having fun.
Perperas has been in the hair salon business for 46 years since.
“When I look back, it’s been an amazing journey,” she said.
Now a Mattapoisett resident, Perperas said the salon and spa is “thrilled to be in Marion,” in its new location just off Route 6.
“It’s five minutes from the ocean, my goodness,” she said. “It’s such a beautiful thing.”
Marion has been “very friendly and welcoming,” something Gloria and Company is excited about, according to Perperas. She said the business is “really about the relationships.”
“It’s the relationships with our team, the relationships with our guests, the community,” Perperas said. “It’s truly about that.”
