Car catches fire in Rochester
ROCHESTER — After a driver smelled a burning odor while driving in Rochester, they pulled into Adrian’s Package Store’s parking lot, located at 711 Mary’s Pond Road.
The Nissan Altima began smoking once in the lot and caught fire Sunday, Feb. 21. There was only one person in the vehicle and no injuries.
Rochester Police Chief Michael Assad said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“We're assuming it's something to do with the electrical issues in the car,” Assad said.
Assad said he is proud of the police and fire department for ensuring the fire was put out quickly without harming property or people.
He warned residents to warm up their cars before driving, especially after it has been so cold.
“If you see a whole bunch of lights on in your dash that say, ‘Check your engine,’ I would definitely try to bring it to your mechanic and have them check it out to make sure there's nothing wrong with the car,” Assad said.
