MARION — State police arrested a Haverhill man after a high-speed chase on I-95 when he crashed his car Wednesday, Sept. 9.
Jordani Nieves Reyes, 23, was charged with failure to stop for police, negligent operation of motor vehicle, number plate violation to conceal ID, uninsured motor vehicle and leaving the scene of property damage. He was also charged with civil motor vehicle infractions.
According to state police, a trooper tried to stop Reyes around 4 p.m. for motor vehicle violations at the 39-mile marker. Reports indicate he initially stopped the black sedan he was driving, but fled at high speed in the breakdown lane.
Shortly after, the State Police Bourne Barracks recieved a report a vehicle had crashed into the woods near the westbound exit 35 in Marion. When troopers arrived on scene, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.
Marion Fire Department extinguished the fire, and no injuries were reported. Reyes was arrested and booked at the Middleboro barracks, and the car was towed from the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
