James D. Murray, 85
MARION – James D. Murray, 85, of Marion, passed away at home on Oct. 20, 2025. He was the husband of the late Elsie (Kasparian) Murray and the son of the late James S. and Shirley L. (Davidson) Murray.
He was born in Boston and raised in West Roxbury. He then lived in Buzzards Bay and Wareham before moving to Marion. He graduated from Boston Trade High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Murray was a Supervisor of Computer Operations for the MA State Lottery for many years before retiring. After retiring, he and his friend Chet operated a landscaping business, CJ’s Greener Pastures. Previously he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and the Mass State Police.
He was a member and past president of the Sippican Rod and Gun Club, a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Civil War Round Table. He enjoyed going to re-enactments with his brother-in-law, Walter Christl.
Survivors include his daughter, Karen N. Murray of Marion; 2 grandchildren, Allyson Galley and her husband, Jacob of Rochester and Noah Wilkins of Marion; 2 great grandchildren, James and Samuel; several nephews and nieces. He was the brother of the late Ruth Cossaboom.
Visiting hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations - WAREHAM, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
