License transfer, hours approved for new owners of Marion General Store
MARION — New owners of the Marion General Store Amy and Will Felder of Carver have been approved for a license transfer and new store hours.
At a Select Board meeting on Tuesday, June 30 Amy Felder presented the new plan for the Marion General Store, located at 140 Front St,. that the couple recently decided totake over.
The Felders will lease the space and continue running the business under the same name, partnering with the store’s original owner Jack Cheney to honor the store’s 52-year-long history while bringing updates and new offerings.
The couple aim to reopen in July, although an official date has yet to be announced.
Amy Felder explained she and her husband will run and set up the store similar to how it is now with groceries, retail, alcohol and a hot food counter. They will also be adding a coffee bar.
“We plan to operate very similar to what it was under Jack Cheney,” Amy Felder said.
The businesses new hours would be Wednesday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We believe this will better serve the voters and visitors as well as the residents looking for a latte or groceries in the village on the weekends,” she said.
Select Board member Toby Burr asked about Amy Felder’s background in serving alcohol in which she responded she and her husband have both worked in the service industry.
The Select Board agreed to transfer the victualler license, which allows businesses to make and sell food, and an alcohol license to the new owners. They also approved the new hours.
“The whole town is just wishing you the best of luck,” Burr said.
