Marion concert band returns with English and Irish tunes

MARION — The Marion Concert Band will continue its summer concert series with a program of British Isles music Friday, Aug. 7.

The concert, titled "The British Invasion," will feature British brass band pieces alongside songs by Petula Clark, Gerry and the Pacemakers and the Beatles. Members of the Cape Cod British Car Club may also attend.

The program will include "Colonel Bogey" by K.J. Alford; "First Suite in E-flat for Military Band" by G. Holst; "The British Grenadiers" by C. Grundman; "The Girl I Left Behind Me," arranged by L. Anderson; "Children's March" by P. Grainger; "Crown Imperial" by W. Walton; "Irish Tune from County Derry" by P. Grainger; "Prelude, Siciliano & Rondo" by M. Arnold; "Pop and Rock Legends: The Beatles" by M. Sweeney; "Doctor Who: Through Time and Space" by M. Gold; "The British Are Coming," arranged by J. Bocook; and "Knightsbridge March" by E. Coates.

The Cape Cod British Car Club is a Massachusetts nonprofit corporation with more than 250 members, most of whom live in southern New England. 

The club hosts driving and car-display events throughout the year and raises money for scholarships. 

It provides annual scholarships to automotive and auto body students at Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School, Plymouth South High School and Cape Cod Regional Technical School, as well as funding for a scholarship program for Falmouth High School students.

The concert, conducted by Tobias Monte, will begin at 7 p.m., weather permitting, at the Robert Broomhead Bandstand on Island Wharf off Front Street.
