MARION — After an 11-month closure for renovations, the Marion Town House is now open for business.
The newly-renovated space opened Monday, Aug. 3 with accessibility and safety updates that began in September 2025.
Town Administrator Geoffrey Gorman said most of the updates might not be obvious, like a new sprinkler and HVAC systems, but they will improve the building’s operation.
The most visible update is to department offices on the first floor of the structure. Several service windows were moved from one wall to another to improve the flow of foot traffic and make them ADA compliant.
Several lifts were also installed to make the building wheelchair accessible.
The assessor's office has also been moved to be across the treasurer and collector’s office to improve efficiency. Gorman said people often need to go to both offices in one visit, so having them close to each other will save people a trip across the building.
To keep costs down on the $4.28 million project, Facilities Management employees installed some of the finishing touches, including stair treads on the several stair cases in the building.
Gorman said it’s “spectacular” to be back in the building after working from the town’s annex for nearly a year.
“It’s great to open up today for our first day of business,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of residents coming in because the property taxes are due today, unfortunately, but they’re coming in, they want to see it.”
