NEW BEDFORD – Peter V. Mello, Jr., 82, of New Bedford passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford after a brief illness.

Born and raised in Marion, he was the son of the late Louise (Corey) and Peter V. Mello, Sr. Mr. Mello retired from Aerovox in New Bedford with over 25 years of service.

Mr. Mello was a member of the William H. Carney Lodge  of Elks. He enjoyed Cape Verdean music and was proud of his Cape Verdean heritage. He also enjoyed boxing, adored his grandchildren and was a true family man.

Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Mello of Wareham; his siblings, Frances Mello of Orange, CT, Estella Sequeira of Milford, CT, and Antone Mello of Rochester Hills, MI; his grandchildren, Spencer Mello, Travis Mello, and Niles Mello, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his siblings, the late LeRoy Mello, Domingo Mello, and Joseph Mello.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Friday, July 28, 2023 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham from 9 to 10:30 AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 94 High St., Wareham at 11 AM. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham.
