Reckless driver arrested after Saturday night chase in Mattapoisett
MATTAPOISETT — Connecticut resident Nicholas Kreidel, 19, was arrested Saturday, Oct. 4 after driving recklessly in Mattapoisett.
At approximately 11:40 p.m. on Oct. 4, Officer Ben Church was traveling north on North Street when a blue Honda Accord driven by Kreidel swerved over the double yellow lines and almost struck his police cruiser.
Kreidel continued south on North Street, driving in an erratic manner with three other passengers in the vehicle.
Church attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle continued west on Route 6 towards Fairhaven.
The Fairhaven Police Department was notified and dispatched units to assist. They successfully deployed stop sticks that punctured the vehicle’s tires, but the vehicle continued north on Route 240.
The vehicle eventually became disabled and came to a stop on Route 240, prior to Interstate 195.
Kreidel was placed under arrest and taken back to the Mattapoisett Police Department. The remaining three occupants of the vehicle were released.
Kreidel was charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, lights violation and speeding. He was bailed and released on a $500 cash bail pending arraignment in Wareham 4th District Court on Monday.
