The Old Rochester Regional High School faculty and staff chose senior Luke Couto of Mattapoisett as Student of the Month for January. 

Teachers say that Couto has great character and consistently helps the students around him with tough material when the opportunity arises without being asked to do so.

They also say he is a fantastic actor, who has earned a lead in every school play since he arrived at Old Rochester Regional.

“He's a great kid with a great future and a great representative of what a student at Old Rochester can and should be,” one teacher said.  

The Elks of Wareham and New Bedford Lodge No. 1548 sponsors the Elks Student of the Month and Student of the Year Awards for students enrolled in local area high schools. The criteria used in nominating a student include a student who excels in scholarship, citizenship, performing arts, fine arts, hobbies, athletics, church, school and community service, industry and farming.
