First covid case reported at ORR Junior High School

Oct 15, 2020

MATTAPOISETT — The Old Rochester Regional School District reported the first positive case of covid at Old Rochester Regional Junior High School in an Oct. 15 press release.

The individual has not been in school since Oct. 8, tested positive on Oct. 12, and is self-isolating in accordance with state and federal protocols.

It is not clear whether the case came from a student, teacher or staff member. No other information about who tested positive will be released.

Contact tracing is underway by the Mattapoisett Board of Health. So far, it shows that the person didn’t have any close contacts that directly impact the school district.

"The models we've been seeing from state and local health officials indicate that there could be an uptick in COVID-19 cases during the fall and winter months and we will
continue to monitor the situation closely," Superintendent Michael Nelson said. “Barring any further developments, at this time the Board of Health is not recommending that we make any changes to our current hybrid learning model."

Classes resumed as they normally would on Oct. 15 at ORRJHS at the recommendation of the Board of Health.

Nelson and Mattapoisett officials continue to urge all families and residents to remain vigilant about social distancing, wearing masks when in public and practicing proper hygiene
