Marion resident launches literary magazine

Feb 6, 2023

MARION — South Coast writers and poets will have a new place to publish their work this spring. “Sippizine,” an online literary review, will feature short form essays fiction, poetry, photography, visual and video art.

“It’s an idea that wouldn’t go away,” said Alanna Nelson, Sippizine founder and Marion resident. “The South Coast has great news options and a poetry journal, but how can we highlight the wonderful literary talents tied to this area?”

Sippizine will be a semi-annual review, debuting this April. The theme for the first issue is “beginnings.” Submissions open on Feb. 20 and close on March 31.

To help connect Sippizine with the community, Nelson approached the Marion Art Center, which offered to host winter writing prompt sessions.

Nelson received a grant from the Marion Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
