MARION — The long-empty former gas station on Route 6 will soon be the new home of Uncle Jon’s Coffee.
Construction is quickly progressing at the 413 Wareham Road location, adjacent to the coffee shop’s current location.
A crew has been busy clearing out the current structure, which sat empty for about a decade, and preparing it for a spring 2027 opening.
The business bought the neighboring lot in June, hoping a short move would make the coffee shop a little easier to find.
Uncle Jon’s has been renting its current space since 2004, so the move also means the business will soon own the space it operates from.
JJ Pope, son of owner Jonathan Pope, said the 356 Front St. location can feel tucked away from Route 6 and be hard for people to find.
“We've always felt where we are has been a little bit hidden,” Pope said. “We've always had delivery drivers call us up to try and figure out where we are. I think the new building will give us much better exposure.”
He said the new location is also a chance to transform a prominent building into something he hopes “the people of Marion and the community will be proud of.”
