Leda Decorie Kim, 80
Leda Decorie Kim passed away on October 7, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on December 29, 1945, to Earl and Steffie Decorie, she was raised in Wilbraham, Massachusetts. Her life was distinguished by professional accomplishment, a lifelong love of learning, and personal interests.
Leda attended The MacDuffie School, a college preparatory school, before earning her degree from the College of Saint Rose. An avid reader, she maintained a lifelong enthusiasm for books and learning. She was exceptionally articulate and well-spoken, with a gift for expressing herself thoughtfully and an appreciation for the written word.
Leda built an accomplished career in banking, beginning as a teller at Schenectady Trust Company in New York, which later became TrustCo Bank. Through years of dedication and professional growth, she advanced to Senior Executive Vice President at TrustCo. She later transitioned to SEFCU, where she also served as Senior Executive Vice President. Her career spanned decades, from the teller window to senior executive leadership.
Outside of work, Leda enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, orchids, quilting, antiques, and collectibles. She amassed an extensive collection of cookbooks and created memorable dishes for her family over the years.
Gardening and orchids held a special place in Leda’s life. At the family’s former home in Guilderland, her husband, Sung Bok Kim, built a greenhouse addition at the front of their house, where she spent countless hours tending to her orchids. She was a longtime member of the American Orchid Society. The greenhouse remains a fond childhood memory for her family and a pursuit she cherished.
Animals were another constant source of companionship and joy throughout Leda’s life. During the family’s years in Guilderland, pugs were a familiar presence at her feet and on her lap. Later, during her retirement in Mattapoisett, she became especially devoted to her beloved Bouviers des Flandres. Her affection for animals extended beyond her own pets. For many years, Leda was involved with Peppertree Rescue, an all-breed animal rescue organization, helping animals find loving homes. When a home was needed, she was often willing to make her own home the answer. Her love for animals was expressed both through her own dogs and through her efforts to give other animals a second chance.
Leda valued being involved in her community. During her years in Mattapoisett, she volunteered in support of local polling stations and library sales. She also served as Vice-Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners of the Mattapoisett Housing Authority.
Leda and her husband, Sung Bok, shared more than 50 years of marriage and family life. Together, they raised their three children and later enjoyed retirement in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, where they spent the final 15 years of their lives in the home of their dreams. Sung Bok predeceased Leda in February 2026.
Leda is survived by her daughter, Briana Kim-Owens; her twin sons, Blakeley Kim and Cortland Kim; daughter-in-law Tia Kim; grandchildren Nicholas, Lucas, and Luna; niece Kimberlee Morrissey; and nephew Tommy Morrissey. She was predeceased by her husband, Sung Bok; her sister, Mondra Decorie Morrissey; and her brother-in-law, Walter Morrissey.
Leda’s life encompassed a successful career, a lifelong commitment to learning, devotion to animals and gardening, and service to her community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on through her family, the experiences they shared, the community she served, and the many animals she helped find loving homes.
Leda’s wish was to be cremated. Information regarding any memorial service or celebration of life will be shared when arrangements have been finalized. For online guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
